Tanzania Migration Safari in November & December – Herd Tracker

Follow the wildebeest herds as they make their way through the Serengeti’s eastern corridor on their return from Kenya. This luxury safari combines premier camps, world-class guiding, and excellent chances of witnessing the migration in motion, along with the Big Five and diverse landscapes of northern Tanzania.


Trip Summary

Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) – Transfer to lodge in Arusha

Day 2–3: Tarangire National Park – Game drives, elephant herds, baobabs – Overnights in Tarangire

Day 4: Lake Manyara National Park – Scenic drive, birdlife, tree-climbing lions – Continue to Ngorongoro

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater – Full-day game drive – Overnight on crater rim

Day 6–8: Flight to Serengeti (Eastern Corridor) – Game drives following the migration – Overnights in Serengeti

Day 9: Flight Serengeti to Arusha/JRO – End of itinerary or option to extend (Kenya, Zanzibar, or Southern Tanzania)

Tanzania Migration Safari in November and December Herd Tracker

Are you looking for a luxurious safari experience, combining some of the best camps in the Northern Tanzania circuit, and with a bit of luck, you might meet with the migrating herds passing through the Eastern corridor in the Serengeti. During the months of November and early December, the migration can typically be seen moving through the Serengeti Plains on their way back from Kenya and traveling to the South, where they stay to graze and have their babies (late January to March – check our calving migration tours). Staying at top camps, allows for perfect location in the different camps, all the creature comforts, while enjoying some of the best game viewing you can get with world class guides/rangers.

Day 1-JRO Kilimanjaro airport -Arusha

Arrive at JRO Kilimanjaro airport, collect your luggage and go through customs. You will be met by our driver for the transfer to the hotel in Arusha. Depending on your flight time, we can organize an additional excursion (city tour, coffee plantation tour, bike ride, Lake Duluti visit or a half day game viewing in Arusha national Park). Dinner is included at the lodge today. Enjoy the large gardens, and swimming pool, you can relax among lush vegetation, visit the neighboring coffee estate to prepare for your early wakeup call tomorrow.

Day 2-3 Arusha-Tarangire National Park

Breakfast at the hotel and meet with your driver. You will have a private vehicle for the next few days while you visit Tarangire within the wonderful lodge/tented camp. Surrender to a lifestyle with a slowed-down pace., inviting for a true connection with the wildlife and nature surrounding you, inviting a type of tranquility that goes beyond the confines of a vehicle. The transfer takes about 2.5 hours and you can settle at the lodge before the afternoon game activity. Chat to your guide and plan your days.

Day-4 Tarangire-Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, you will be met by our safari guide. Drive through to Lake Manyara National Park. Spend a few hours game viewing in the park and stop for a light picnic lunch. The park offers a wilderness experience in diverse habitats, from its Rift Valley soda lake to dense woodlands and steep mountainsides. The shores of the lake, encrusted with pink flamingo, attract more than 400 species of birds, depending on the season. Besides the large predators, you can see various herds of buffalo, while the Masai giraffes and impalas roam the lake shores and the forested valley slopes. Exit the park and continue to the Ngorongoro Crater Rim to your lodge

Day 5- Ngorongoro Crater

Today is a very early wake up in order to travel down the Ngorongoro Crater and enjoy a couple of hours of game viewing before the crowds arrive. The Ngorongoro Crater has many nicknames — Africa’s “eighth wonder of the world” and “Africa’s Eden,” to name a few. But even without these lofty nicknames, the crater is a stunning a sight. Formed 2.5 million years ago after an extinct volcano collapsed on itself, the caldera is largest of its kind in the world. You will have the best chance to view the Big Five, and enjoy a packed picnic style lunch before going back to camp.

Day 5- Central Serengeti

You can either have a relaxed breakfast and depart for full day game drives around 9:00 AM with packed lunch and return back to lodge late afternoon around 6:00 PM. Or you can depart at 6:00 AM on an early morning game drive. Later return to accommodation for breakfast and relax for a bit and depart on an afternoon game drive with packed lunch. You will explore the central portion of the Serengeti National Park today. The legendary Serengeti National Park is the most renowned safari destination for its incredible population of lions and leopards. The central portion of the Serengeti – known as Seronera area is one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park. It features the Seronera River, which provides a valuable water source to this area and therefore attracts wildlife well representative of most of the Serengeti’s species. During the off season of the migration, one must really look out for the many lion pride that thrive in this region. The interactions and survival of these lion pride provide an excellent game viewing experience all year round. Along with a picnic lunch during the full day game drive, the day will come to a close by around 5PM. The long day comes to an end with a heavy dinner and a good night’s rest in your accommodation.

Day 6-8 Ngorongoro-Eastern Serengeti

Today drive back to Manyara and say your good-byes to your safari guide before the flight to the Central Serengeti. Arrive at Seronera airstrip where you are met by the safari guide from your camp and depart on shared game drives organized by the knowledgeable local guide. You will travel to the Eastern Corridor, far from the crowds of the central area, where there are only a few camps and very little traffic.

Day 9 – End Of Itinerary

Last morning in the bush, enjoy breakfast in camp and enjoy a meandering drive to the airstrip. Say to your good byes to your safari guide and take the schedule flight to JRO airport. Depending on your onward flight back home we can add a day room nearby, or spend time at leisure to check in. Alternatively, we can extend your safari with a stay in Kenya’s Mara Mara to continue with the game viewing, or combine with a South Tanzania park
